5,218 new Covid cases & 5,066 recoveries today in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: 5,218 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today. 4,478 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was unknown for 622. There are 46 medical personnel among those infected. At the same time, 5,066 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 33 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as due to Covid and the related death toll in the state is now 2,680.

56,453 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.24%. A total of 70,56,318 samples have been sent for testing till now.

The district-wise numbers for those who tested positive today for Coronavirus are Kottayam 758, Thrissur 712, Ernakulam 617, Thiruvananthapuram 430, Kollam 419, Pathanamthitta 404, Malappuram 377, Palakkad 349, Alappuzha 322, Wayanad 281, Kozhikode 276, Kannur 149, Idukki 104 and Kasaragod 20. Today, 72 of those diagnosed with the disease have arrived from outside the state.

The count of those infected through contact in the districts are Kottayam 733, Thrissur 689, Ernakulam 442, Thiruvananthapuram 306, Kollam 413, Pathanamthitta 304, Malappuram 355, Palakkad 162, Alappuzha 310, Wayanad 273, Kozhikode 257, Kannur 114, Idukki 100 and Kasargod 20.

The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam & Thrissur 9, Kannur 7, Palakkad 6, Pathanamthitta 5, Thiruvananthapuram 3, Malappuram & Wayanad 2, and Kollam, Idukki & Kozhikode 1 each.

The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 290, Kollam 863, Pathanamthitta 188, Alappuzha 233, Kottayam 440, Idukki 72, Ernakulam 416, Thrissur 706, Palakkad 338, Malappuram 714, Kozhikode 487, Wayanad 162, Kannur 115 and Kasaragod 42.

At present, there are 57,757 patients undergoing treatment for Covid while 6,16,666 people have so far recovered from the disease in the State.

There are a total of 3,04,165 persons under isolation across the state – 2,90,987 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,178 in hospitals. 1,357 people were admitted to the hospitals today.

12 new places were demarcated as hotspots today while three areas were excluded. Currently, there are 442 hotspots in Kerala.
